top lists for 2008 - doesn't matter what year whatever came out
movies :
1. (Låt den rätte komma) Let the Right one In - My favorite of 2008. Amazing flim. Restores your faith in the medium.
2. Taken - Respect Liam. You made Jason Bourne look like panty waste. We need more flicks like this. Now please, someone take his ex wife :-) !!
3. The Dark Knight - The look of this flick is amazing, and Heath just made it an classic.
4. Burn After Reading - Coens doing what the Coens do.
5. Once - A love story about musicians who love music.
6. Speed Racer - Some critics put this as their worse of 2008, have they seen Jumper? Shows you how worthless commercial critics are. If you haven't, sit down with the kids and watch this! Great flick, will become a cult classic.
7. Hitman - Yeah, it's not the French Connection, but it entertained me. Based of the video game series.
8. No country for old men - creepy cool flick
9. The Mist - Great little sci-fi flick. More on a statement on just how much we take law and order for granted.
10. The Matador - DIdn't even know this was out till a friend pointed it to me. Ex 007 having fun acting again.
11. Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou - wacky, looney, cool.
12 . Lucky Number Slevin - another one I didn't get to till this year. Great revenge flick.
13. Tropic Thunder - "g5!" Funny flick. Tom Cruise will trip you out, and Robert Downey Jr makes plays black better than those Tyler Perry movies.
14. Quantum of Solace - nice to see the more serious tone back in the 007 films. Nice movie, could have done without the 'lets blow everything up' ending, and throw some more hand to hand combat in there next time.
15. Wall-E - Gives you something more than just cute robots.
16. Cloverfeild - Everything the USA version of Godzilla should have been. It's a different kind of movie, but it's big bad monster at heart.
17. Rambo - IF your going to come back over 60 years old as a action star, this is how you do it.
18. Untraceable - A few friends were disappointed the villain in this movie wasn't a fantasy joke nut job like in the Saw flicks. Goes to show just how much movies have changed tone to get your opening weekend $$. Great flick. I believe it would go down like it did in the movie.
19. The Incredible Hulk - Short and semi sweet. Makes me wonder how much better the film would have been without Edward Norton (great actor…BUT) there to throw a monkey wrench in the production.
20. Stardust - Watched this in a daze on a flight. Re-watched it when I got back home and enjoyed it.
21. The Kingdom - Well done.
22. Religulous - about as direct as you can get. think the davinci code without the conspiracy plot.
23. death race - surprisingly good.
24. Zombie Strippers - instant classic.
25. the bank job - you will be entertained.
26. the wrestler - always liked mickey rouke. he is what he is. great film, great direction and a helluva acting job by Harley Davidson :-)
27. choke - my kind of movie. sick, cool funny and perverted with just the right touch of heart. book was better, but this was very nice.
Just never gets old:
1. The Thing - John Carpenters classic sci fi flick. Amazing, to this day.
2. Kung Fu Hustle - One of those films that comes along and hits everything on the right spot.
3. So Close - Hot Asian chicks as contract killers. What more can you ask for.
4. Shinobi - Great fantasy ninja / martial arts film.
5. Jet Li - Hero & Fists of Legend.
6. Amelie - about as cute and enjoyable as a movie can get. These kind of flicks are rare.
7. Constantine - where's the sequel.
8. Crouching Tiger.Hidden Dragon. - where's the prequel?
9. 1408 - gets better with time.
10. 300 - bad ass.
11. bad santa - gotta love it
12. face/off - remember when john woo mattered? what happened?
13. Napoleon Dynamite - hey'll yeah.
14. audition - creepy cool.
Overated or what went wrong?:
+Iron Man - I don't know about you, but I don't pay $10 to see my kick ass super hero powers at 15 %. What a BS second half to this movie.
+Knocked Up - I was expecting a lot more. It could have been a lifetime channel movie on pregnancy.
+National Treasure flicks - IF these can make big money, then anything can with a pg-13 rating.
+Hellboy 2 - what a waste. Think blade 3 with the director of blade 2. This guy is capable a way better work.
+Zodiac - 3 hours of my life I wish I had back.
+Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Goes to show that anything can make money these days with the right hype.
+Madonna - Hard Candy : yuck. Please go back to working with producers no one has heard of. You sound so much better then.
+transporter 3 - yuck.
+true blood - I love vampires, but i don't get this. Moonlight should have been moved to hbo.
+next gen gaming - when you have to spend $2000 on a tv, $300 on a console and $60 per game, it's just not fun anymore. Maybe that why nintendo and the wii is spanking everyone. It still works on your existing tube tv.
+hancock - half of a good movie doesn't make it for me, but is seems it does for you. Boy did it make a lot of $.
+wanted - it looked good, had the Jolie factor, but the story was about as dum as you can get.
+war inc - why not just make grosse point blank 2? would have been much better than this.
TV:
+Sopranos - Amazing show. Deserves all the praise it gets. Why did it have to end?
+Supernatural - currently my favorite. great writing, great acting, great pacing. More please.
+Doctor Who - High praise to the producing team who brought my favorite timelord back. That being said, its been mostly great this season. At times though they really dums thing down thinking that this is what children want. Kids are smarter now than they were when Dr Who first premiered in 1963. Looking forward to the new producer's run.
+Sarah Connor Chronicles - Boy did this show start to ease down the toilet. I read they were planning on dumbing down the scripts to please the critics. Bad move. Now your show has been moved to Fridays, which says...enjoy your last season, thats all you get. Pity. Hot chicks kicking ass is usually a good recipe. What happened?
+Smallville - well it's got better, but it looks like for the remainder of the season trhey reset things back to the lana/clark angle which is just a terrible writing idea. Oh well. Too many seasons dedicated to that nonsense.
+House- they seemed a little stalled on what to do, but certain aspects are still interesting.
+robot chicken - always funny.
+madtv - sad to see you go.
+Battlestar Galactica - how does it end?
Music:
+Kate Nash - Made of Bricks : love this chicks voice. looking forward to her next record.
+Rhianna - good girl gone bad : Pop music at it's finest. Nice variety of tracks sung by a woman who looks like she was created by sex scientists. Its great despite this you actually listen to the music and you don't have a 'stripper's video' to go with each song. Well done.
+Radiohead - In Rainbows : Favorite of the year. Some of those songs just stick in your head and play over and over again. Respect to one of the great bands still having fun making music. That gets lost with a lot of bands.
+Erykah Badu - New Amerykah, Pt. 1 4th World War : Classic. The productions are excellent. Looking forward to pt 2.
+M.I.A - Arular / Kala : More rebel than public enemy (in it's heyday), this girl is on to something. Underated. And paper planes and bird flu....sheeeeeeet!
+Lil wayne - the carter 3 : about as good as hip hop is going to get these days.
+BowWowWow - greatest hits : great band, god of a bassist.
+Eva Cassidy - what a sweet voice. A shame.
+Dark Knight Soundtrack - amazing work.
Nutty shit in 08:
+the economy - I'm sorry. You tax the hell out of people, make owning or renting a home or apartment 40% of many people's income, allow big corps to structure payroll so the ceo make 700 times what the mail room guy gets, price people out of higher education, charge incredible amounts of money for the simple thing you MUST have in s society, make YOUR drugs of choice illegal while taxing the hell out of the ones you don't mind (liquor, tobacco).....I mean what do you expect? Folks are going to slowly feel the water around the boiling and look for relief. Although I firmly believe people deserve the government they get, you have to recognize the United States Government and Giant corporations, your finally getting a taste of what you have deserved for a long time. Well at least for a little bit, those bail out checks should be on the way, you fucks.
+Obamafication - Don't like his politics in general, but I respect the grind. While pencil head brothers have walked around dropping out of high school, making many many babies but not raising them, refusing to start small businesses ect. While a lot of blacks chose to get down like this, you have this cat Obama who came up in the ranks at the same time networking, moving up, play the game the way it's played in the real world....and now look. President of the freakin' fuckin' united states of america. It gets no higher than that. Whats going to be the excuse for these 'soul brotha' baggy pants wearing mumble mouth mother fuckers now. Obama is president of the united states for better or for worst and you have to respect that. Hat's off.
+gas prices - When gas was $4 a gallon, you heard the leaders of the oil cartel explain to you as if you were children "this is the price oil should be". When it drops $2.40 in 3 months, do you hear them saying this crap? Nope. Instead they have meetings trying to figure out how they can jack the prices back up. "we'll cut production 2 million barrels you shits". Yeah precious resource. What a bunch tools.
+chicago - murder capitol : You know whats really scary about the crime in chicago. It was on Obama's watch. It makes no sense you have the same mayor year end and year out with so much currurtion and fre for all murder. Its like they all say in a back room...."hey let the niggaz shoot each other all they want, less blacks to worry about....next round on me fellas hahaha!" I honestly think thats how they fell about the high rate of violence on the south side of chicago. Of course there's 2 sides to the story. With all the blame we shoot at everyone, brothas will do crime on brothas in a heartbeat. Slow singing and minister speeches aren't going to change a thing in the community. I used to live in marynook on the south side of chicago. Best place for a kid to grow up backindadayz. No way would i live anywhere near the south side. If the community isn't going to do something about the bad shit that goes on there, then I'm outy 5000 g.
+the decline of good techno trax. RIP
+2008 and there is still war. Isn’t that crazay. I think it’s crazay. Hell yeah that’s crazy. Probably. |

Derrion Albert died because Chicago is full of shit, and has been for decades. It was a great day when Chicago was eliminated in the first round in trying to host the games. For the longest time (as I have written here) Mayor ‘diamond’ Daley and the rest of the crooked Guv'ment parts of Illinois have done a piss poor job of educating youth. Especially on the South Side of Chicago. Decades of this type of shitty education is starting to come to a head. What you saw in the video that showed how Derrion Albert died was the collapse of civilzation based on a lack of education. I know what’s it’s like to grow up in a black neighborhood. The last thing you want to do in front of your peers in learn, speak good english and have interests and hobbies that aren’t rooted in sports, rap music, and bytchez. Luckily my family moved to the suburbs where culture and education seem to fare better. What happened to Derrion Albert was unacceptable. Period. It should have sparked a movement. Our President should have pointed his finger at his old turf. Nothing really happened other than a few “oh that’s horrible’ news stories. Well at least the Olympic committees, who aren’t exactly pillars of truth and justice (they leave nothing but debt behind), saw Chicago for what it really is. All ego, no substance. Fix the problems Diamond Daley, and to the people of Chicago who are fed up with this type of politicking…….turn off the TV and do something about it.
Jason Goff had a great idea. T-Shirts that read Save the Youth by 2016. Every Chicagoan should wear one once a week. Almost 100 kids killed in the span of a little over a year in Chicago. Children. It has to stop, otherwise it almost looks like genocide (even though it's mostly self perpetrated) is ok. People can get behind 3 weeks of silly games, but a honor roll student murdered trying to get home from school and preserved on video for the world to see gets forgotten way to quick. |
